HERITAGE MEWS COVID-19 CLEANING PROTOCOL and SAFETY MEASURES,

To ensure the well-being and safety of our guests we are following a Government / Tourist Authority approved cleaning protocol and safety measures for self-catering properties. We ‘double clean’ - first cleaning the cottage to our usual high standard, followed by sanitising. We use a food-safe virucide conforming to EN 14476:2013+A2:2019 that is known to ‘kill’ (neutralise) SARS Cov-2, the coronavirus that causes Covid-19. We focus on kitchen surfaces and equipment, bathroom surfaces and key areas and touch points, including door handles, light switches and banisters. You can read the cleaning protocol HERE. We rotate bedding (pillows, duvets) between guests. Our welcome tray contains only individually packaged items. We provide hand sanitiser for when you are out and about and disinfectant wipes, virucide spray bottle (please follow instructions) and disposable gloves in the kitchen. To meet the new safety measures, some things in the cottage are different from usual and we also ask guests for your help in reducing the risk of spreading the virus -

Please strip the beds before leaving. As people can be carrying the virus without having any symptoms, we are advised to assume that someone in your party could have Covid-19. As the virus is transmitted through the air and removing bed linen could make the virus airborne, we are advised to ask guests to strip the beds themselves. Please remove the pillow cases and liners, duvet cover and liner, and the fitted sheet and flannelette under sheet, and put them in the plastic bags provided in each bedroom. Please put used towels in a separate bag. Please leave the tied bags in the hall.
Please air the bedrooms after removing the bed linen. You could leave bedroom windows open when you leave if the weather is fine.

Please empty all bins and put the plastic bags in the dustbin in the utility cupboard under the porch.

Please use the dishwasher set on the “normal” setting. As we are required to re-wash or sanitise all crockery, utensils, cutlery, pans etc. in the kitchen between guests, including clean items, please do not empty the dishwasher after the end of your last wash. This will save us having to rewash them!

Arrival & departure times: as we need extra time for the enhanced cleaning and sanitising required between guests, we have had to change our arrival time to 4pm instead of our usual 3pm. Please also leave promptly by 10am on your departure day and let us know if you plan to leave earlier. Thank you!

If a member of your party develops Covid-19 symptoms during your stay or is advised by the NHS Test and Trace service to self-isolate, we request that you let us know immediately and follow Government guidance by vacating the cottage and returning home to self-isolate. You can use the free phone line in the cottage: #1 for our landline or #2 for Val’s mobile, or email us. For help, use the NHS 111 online coronavirus service https://111.nhs.uk/covid-19/ or telephone the NHS, dialling 111. If you need to extend your stay for any reason, including self-isolating, you will have to pay for the additional nights and any additional costs arising out of our having to cancel our next guests’ booking(s).

Some things may be missing in the cottage. To minimise the risk of spreading the virus through touch, we have reduced the number of items such as cushions, throws, ornaments, tourist information, books etc., and rotate them between guests. We provide paper leaflets as, according to research, the virus lasts no longer than 3 hours on paper. We are not providing fresh flowers as we usually like to do. We have reduced the quantity of kitchen items to enable us to rotate sets or wash them between guests.
Please note: the books, games, DVDs etc. in the cupboard in the sitting-dining room have not been rotated after previous guests. You will find a notice on the cupboard explaining this.

We hope you have a wonderful holiday. The ‘new normal’ may be different from what we are used to, but it is good to be able to get away again, and if we all take responsibility for minimising the risk of spreading the virus, we will hopefully continue to enjoy fewer restrictions. Please be sure to follow Government guidance on social distancing when you are out and wash (or sanitise) your hands frequently.
